Latest from Simjen: Jonny Reid Leads Porsche Carrera Cup Lineup

With the recent podium finish at Phillip Island, New Zealander Jonny Reid has held his spot as a front-runner in the 2011 Porsche City Index Carrera Cup Australia. The fourth round of the Carrera Cup saw the Simjen Silver Bullet clock a new lap record for the fastest qualifying time at 1:33.1968s, ahead of Craig Baird’s best time from practice.

Starting at pole position, Jonny Reid finished the 12 laps in third place for both Round One and Round Two with 19:23.5630s and 19:15.3885s respectively. The final race saw Reid finish a close second, three seconds behind fellow New Zealander Daniel Gaunt at 19:33.0722s.

Jonny Reid has proven that he has what it takes to win the Carrera Cup with an outstanding record of podium wins. With a pole position start and a podium finish at Albert Park, Reid then went on to claim victory on the Barbagallo Raceway winning all three races and holding a solid runner-up spot in all three rounds at Townsville.

Reid now leads the 2011 Porsche City Index Carrera Cup Australia standings with 593 points, 18 points ahead of Daniel Gaunt (575), Craig Baird (566), Steven Richards (517) and Ben Barker (423). The fifth round of the Carrera Cup will be held at Mount Panorama’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from October 6^th to 9^th.
